Blog and Life Update No 2

Whoops, that hiatus was a little longer than I had planned originally. So sorry for my absence on the blog, but life has been all kinds of crazy – though thankfully of the wonderful variety.

First off all, I would like you to meet Bob. I wish I could keep him, but he belongs to my parents and I am just taking care of him during their holiday abroad. These last few days I have discovered, however, that a far more accurate description would be to say that my parents belong to Bob. He might be pretty, but has a matching diva personality and enjoys having his every whim catered too immediately (even if it is 4 am).dsc06448

Besides el Bob and being back in the place I grew up for a bit (which is weird, but a great opportunity to take some photos of the environment), I have also started my new job working at the new T-Rex exhibit at my local Natural History museum. It is so much fun interacting with the public on a daily basis and even more fun to see how a museum operates behind the scenes. It has been a steep learning curve though and I have been a little too busy to blog.

Not to worry, as the second anniversary of Doves & Roses is coming up in October (I honestly can’t believe it but I double checked). I hope things will get a little more settled and normal service on the blog should resume with a bang on October third with a lovely giveaway as a thank you for sticking with me.dsc06465

I’ll start catching up with all of your blogs and comments this week, so stay tuned and I’ll be in touch!

Empties: Miniature Edition

Empties Miniature Edition

End of the month again, so time to have a look at the products I finished this month. It is a bit of a special edition, as each of these products is a tester. I had so many of these lying around and decided to work my way through them and collect them all in a single post. Obviously, you can’t really test a skincare product properly from a small sample, so I will just be giving you my first impressions on these.

This Works: In Transit Camera Close-Up

In Transit Camera close-up thisworks

If a brand claims a particular product does just about everything at once, I am usually rather sceptical. You know the type I mean: the serum that miraculously deals with twelve different issues at once. Usually, these products just leave me disappointed, even if they are actually quite nice, because they simply don’t live up to the bold claims on the packaging.  So, I approached the In Transit Camera Close-Up by Thisworks with caution as this claims to be a mask, moisturiser, and primer in one.

Goof Proof: Brow Pencil by Benefit

Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil 2

When it comes to brows, I am quite lucky. I have natural deep and full brows and have never over-plucked them, so I was one happy camper when the fashion went my way and everybody started wearing clearly defined brows. Thank you Cara Delevigne! I don’t actually touch my brows on a daily basis, but they do look a little smarter for special occasions if filled in with a pencil and kept in place by some gel. So, I was curious to try something from Benefit’s new brow range: the Goof Proof Brow Pencil.

Polish Pick: Truffe by Soigne

Soigne Botanique five free nail polish in truffeIf you have read a few of my polish picks before, you may have noticed I am not a summer polish kinda girl. I love pastel shades with a grey undertone (think Farrow and Ball colors for nails), deep jewel tones, and dark shades. Not your typical bright summer fair, but I continue to rock them nonetheless. So, it shouldn’t really surprise you I have been wearing dark grey Truffe on my nails all week and I absolutely love the color.

Relax with Aveda’s Stress Fix Body Creme

aveda stress-fix body creme

Welcome to a little relaxing midweek break. I have had a crazy week – you may have noticed I have been a little absent in the comments and on social media – so I can use a little stress relief. I don’t really want to tell you the news just yet as I don’t want to jinx it, but we all know how stressful job interviews are right?!

Purging my Stash

Purging the stash

This insane changeable summer weather of late -no honestly, right now it is pouring with rain and grey, yet two days ago I was wandering around in a dress enjoying the sunshine -has been irritating, but those dreary Sundays are perfect for cleaning and organising. Inspired by Stashy from Stash Matters, I decided it was time to get rid of some stuff I simply don’t use and older products that have passed their use by date (in some cases, I am a little ashamed to admit, by quite some margin). Let’s have a look at what is going into the trash.
