Chanel strikes again: Rouge Coco in Dimitri

Last week, I introducted you to my latest lipstick love: Chanel’s Rouge Coco Arthur. I loved it so much, I decided to pick up another color from the Rouge Coco series and after some delibaration I settled on Dimitri (442).

Chanel Coco Rouge Dimitri 4 (2)

These reformulated Rouge Coco lipsticks are really hydrating on the lips yet last a good three to four hours before you need to touch up. I seem to re-apply slightly more often than that, simply to enjoy the lovely packaging and recognizable click that accompanies closing the tube. I have raved about the packaging enough in my previous review of Arthur, it is everything you would expect from a luxury brand like Chanel.

The hydrating nature of the Rouge Coco lipsticks means they are easy to apply and go on smoothly. Dimitri is opaque enough to cover your lips in lovely color, but with a hint of translucency that makes it easier  to wear. This doesn’t feel like a heavy lipstick, in fact I often forget I am wearing it until I spot the telltale signs of lipstick on my teacup.

Dimitri is a vibrant red with a clear pink undertone. I think this is slightly less intimidating than bright or dark red, so a great shade to start with if you aren’t used to wearing bright lipstick. I have fallen head over heals (again).

All lipsticks in this range are named after friends or lovers of Coco Chanel. Dimitri refers to her relationship with Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich of Russia. I just love these little stories behind names, don’t you?

So, how does Dimitri compare to Arthur? I love them both (please don’t make me choose one)! Arthur is an amazing vibrant orangy-red perfect for spring and summer, while Dimitri is just such a great versatile and easy to wear red lippy.

Chanel Coco Rouge Dimitri 4 (2)

I agree! Rouge Coco is quickly becoming my new favorite line of lipsticks. You hit the nail on the head! They’re opaque enough to give good pigmentation, but the slight translucency and slip make for comfortable wearing. They’re amazing! I received a lovely little package from Chanel (couldn’t possibly have to do with the amount of shopping that I’ve done on their beauty site this spring) containing a baby-sized Arthur. I friggin’ love it!!! It’s my new favorite red. And, Dimitri is GORGEOUS! Thanks, Anne… Now I think I *need* him as well. Lol.
I agree. The stories behind the names add all the more depth and fun! :o)

Ooh no: a baby arthur sounds even better then a normal sized one!! Am I the only silly girl that loves miniature products? And Arthur is just the perfect red for spring 🙂
They are just amazing lipsticks: I have always been a little afraid of wearing bright colors to work but these have been on my lips a lot!

Augh! Anne!!! The magnetism between me and these lipsticks is unbelievable, and sharing our enthusiasm for them is making it hard to be a good girl and resist! Lol!! The only reason that I haven’t broken down and bought two or three more, is because next week Charlotte Tilbury will finally release her Matte Revolution lipsticks on her website in the US! I had planned to buy the full wardrobe…
        Augh!! Beauty blogger problems 😩

I know!!! It’s been frustrating! I bought one while we were in London last fall and I’ve been dying for more!!

Great review. I recently branched out and started wearing brighter colors. I love the glossy look of this Chanel line. I always put a gloss on top of my lip color, but with this one I wouldn’t have too. I might have to check it out.

Thanks Asa. I love the glossy and ever so slightly transparant look, certainly makes it easier to wear 🙂
They are just great quality lipsticks, like you would expect from Chanel.
