My Favorite Powder: Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural

Finding the right setting powder that works for you can be quite tricky. I found mine a while ago: the Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. Everything about this baked powder was perfect…except the design of the compact. The lack of a mirror made this less than ideal for daily use in my handbag or travel, so this lived on my dressing table.

Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Light Plus

You can imagine my joy when Mac introduced a new compact with mirror for the Mineralize Skinfinish range. I picked up the new version as I had finally hit pan on my old one and this has lived in my handbag ever since. My only small gripe about the new packaging is that it is a lot bulkier than the old mirrored compacts Mac produced. I don’t quite understand why you would add a mirror for convience sake but than make it more difficult to fit in small bags…Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Light Plus

Regardless, this is my favorite setting powder for touch ups and while travelling. I have the color Light Plus, a pale golden beige, but Mac make a great range of colors so this is suitable for all skintones.

The powder is very fine, so it doesn’t look powdery once applied or make your base look cakey. The finish is a bit of a contradiction: it is matte with a slight luminescence making your skin look natural.

The compact contains 10 grams and costs $32/£23/€29.50. This might be a bit of an investment for some, but it is really worth it for me. The quality of the powder is fantastic and the product will last quite a while. It took me about a year to reach pan on my previous one.

This is an excellent setting powder with a great range of colors to choose from, so you always find one perfect for you. Have you tried this? What is your favorite setting powder?

I do have a setting powder from MAC, and I love it, but I’ve been eye-ing different ones because I feel like I’ve been using this one for so long. This new version looks super sleek and nice!

I know, I have the same thing. And they last forever as well, so that doesn’t help either. I have my eye on the hourglass setting powders 🙂 Have you figured out which one you want to try next?

Oh yes the hourglass one is on my list! I’ve been eye-ing a laura mercier setting powder, I believe it’s the illuminating one, but I want to try it out first.

Oh, another nice suggestion I must swatch now! I agree though, I prefer to try them before.

No, there isn’t. I personally don’t mind as I always use a brush to apply powder.

I’m interested to try this! My favorite (and I’ve very loyal to it) is Hourglass’ Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light. Have you tried their powders? If so, how do you feel they compare to this MAC version?

Well, you know the answer to that now you’ve read my wishlist. Do you have dim light as well? I am torn between diffused or dim light!

I don’t. I played with them in the store and settled on diffused and haven’t looked back since. It’s very natural and it keeps makeup put in its place — no creasing whatsoever. :o)

Great! We don’t have a counter, so I will have to gamble or perhaps take a sneaky trip to the UK 😉 It sounds so lovely though

Haven’t tried any skin range from MAC, I seem to be akin to the drug store products as keeping up with the price tags would be a little costly for me to maintain! Though I would be tempted to try the Studio Fix Foundation that everyone tends to rave about!! Lovely pics chum… are you only blogging in English now? XXX

I can imagine, though powder is one of those products that last forever, so although an initial investment at least you don’t have to replace it often.
Where you reading the dutch sections 😉 I am a little busy as work and have noticed most of my public is english anyway, so this was an easy way to keep blogging daily but reduce the time I spend on it… might keep it this way or go back to being bilingual…we’ll see!

Very true Anne 🙂 I was indeed reading the dutch sections hehe Not that it has by any stretch improved my knowledge, however I was able to pick out a few words here and there lol That’s a great idea, especially if most of your audience is english speaking, saves the time. Like you say see how it goes & if your dutch followers miss it then revert back 🙂 XXX

Actually, I have been told there are some similarities between Gallic and Dutch, but not a lot!
Yeah, we’ll see how it goes. It doesn’t take nearly as long to translate as to right a full post, but a proper translation does take a couple of minutes per post.

My favourite too 🙂 I use light for setting my under eye concealer and medium plus for the rest of the face. Worth every penny!

Absolutely lovely 😀 I just use one color everywhere, but I like the idea of using a lighter version under my eyes. might look into that!

It really makes a big difference if you use a lighter concealer for brightening under the eyes. Stops it from becoming the same colour as the rest of your face 🙂

Not too light though: I once accidentaly picked up a really light concealer (just grabbed the wrong color) and it looked weird!

It settled weirdly on my skin and accentuate pores/scars.
Also it oxidised on me, but that was when my skin was oilier.

The only powder I have right now is the Bobbi Brown Mineral powder. It’s amazing.
I’m on a hunt for a setting powder for dry skin, that is some tough mission 😦
The weather here is so crazy that a person with dry skin needs to set makeup with powder, hilarious!! XD

I haven’t had any nasty reaction with MAC products so far.
Actually, this one is the only one (or at least one of a very few) from MAC that I don’t particularly like. 🙂

I know there are lots of beauty lovers that don’t have issues with these products, but my sensitive skin had this bad habit of reacting to most of the things the other don’t! *sighs*
so for as much as I’d love to use them, I just can’t! xx

Really unfortunate, although I find their foundation colors too yellow/orange for me anyway! Have never been able to find the perfect match.

That’s also true! Neutral tones are my favourites in base products and they don’t habe much of an option there! Another turn off! 😩😔
            Lots of xx
