A proper base coat is an absolute necessity if you love nail polish. Base coats are meant to protect your nails from discoloration, which is caused easily by bright or darker colors. The best base coats, however, also have nourishing and protecting qualities that help your nails look their best.
My absolutely favorite is the Essie Grow Stronger Base Coat. This base coat promises to make your nails stronger, smoother and more resilient to breaking.
The base coat is an almost invisible pale pink and it does a great job protecting against discoloration. I wear lots of blues and greens, color that easily leach into your nails, but I never have any issues with stained nails.
This really does seem to make my nails a little stronger. Obviously it doesn’t protect me from all breakage, but I definitely noticed the difference when I ran out of this base coat and tried something else. As you can imagine, I quickly changed back to this base coat.
The big bonus of having stronger nails is that it will make your manicures last longer: chips are often caused by weaker nails bending at the tips when pressure is applied.
Simply apply a thin coat of this base coat on clean nails and continue with your choice of polish. It dries quite quickly, so this really doesn’t require much extra time but gives great results.
I also use this as a sort of treatment: I apply just a thin layer of this to clean nails, leave for a day, remove and reapply for three consecutive days. Great if your nails need a little break from polish and the nude pink actually looks rather sophisticated.
