Worth the Hype? Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet

Some products just explode onto the beauty blogging scene and the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipstick was certainly one of these. For a little while, it was just everywhere! After reading all of these glowing reviews, I picked it up in a lovely nude pink.

The Rouge Edition Velvets are longlasting matte lipsticks that claim to stay put for 24 hours while feeling comfortable and light on the lips. They come in a variety of bright and nude shades.

I choose a more neutral pink shade with the amazingly cute name: Don’t Pink of it! Do not pick this thinking it is a nude, as you can see in the image it clearly reads as a pink lip but in an understated way.

I have to admit I am not completely blown away by these: it is a bit of a mixed bag for me. I love the matte finish and the pink color. The lipstick is comfortable to wear Β and not drying on your lips, but I do feel it a little on my lips so it isn’t as light as promised.

My big problem is the long lasting aspect though. This doesn’t hold well on me: it wears quite quickly in the center of the lips after eating or drinking. I had expected a little more from this, especially since everyone is raving about this staying on their lips all day without touch-ups. Am I doing something wrong here?

On the plus side, the shades are amazing and the matte finish is very fashionable right now. This isn’t very expensive and I still find it worth my money, but it just isn’t performing as well as I had hoped. Do you own any of these? Do let me know what you think about them and whether you have a different experience with them?!

I am so torn: i love the color and finish, but they do fade quite quickly once you eat or drink. At least they are not too expensive. xx

Yes, the lasting power really lets it down and is the only downside.
      Thanks for stopping by.

I agree, the color is just perfect. If only it was as long lasting as they claim πŸ™‚

That colour is lovely on you! It is disappointing when you have heard raving reviews on a product and it disappoints.
I have been missing stopping by so much! I am glad I did. πŸ˜€ I hope you are well, Anne! ❀

Aw thanks Nadine! It is just a little irritating, especially since the color and finish are both lovely. Would still buy it, it just isn’t that longlasting.
Well, you have just been really busy! Hope all of your tests are going well. When will you be all done?

It’s quite often that cosmetics don’t live up to their promises. Thank goodness for reviews though. πŸ˜„
I will be finished on the 19th of June and then I have a month long winter holiday. 😊 How are you doing, Anne?

Oh still a little while to go than! Good luck πŸ™‚ You have earned a nice holiday πŸ˜€
Still weirded out by the summer/winter thing: we are finally moving into some warmer weather here.
Things here are going well, a bit chaotic at work but I’ll manage. Summer should be quieter πŸ™‚

            Thank you, Anne. 😊
It is strange. It always feels like all the world is celebrating the coming of summer when I am heading into winter weather. πŸ˜„
I hope things at work will quiet down for you soon! I am sure your hard work will pay off though. πŸ˜€ Have a lovely Friday and a beautiful weekend! Xx

I can imagine, a little weird to have your school break in the middle of winter as well πŸ˜‰
I am sure it will be fine, thanks Nadine.
Hope you have a lovely weekend as well πŸ˜€

We have school holidays approximately every three months. It’s just our December/January and June/July holidays that are long though. The other two holidays during the year are usually between a week and two weeks long but it helps, nevertheless. πŸ˜€ Enjoy your warmer weather! xxx

Oh that’s interesting! We have one big summer holiday and a shorter break over christmas. Makes much more sense that you have split it differently πŸ™‚

Those short holidays are often life savers. πŸ˜€ It’s only schools and tertiary institutions that have holiday like that though. Most businesses have things split similarly to how your holidays are split but they mostly close over Christmas which is our summer anyway. haha it’s confusing, really. πŸ˜€ xxx

I want to get this shade also. I have very bright one and I think it worth the hype. I had a dinner with few dishes and I didn’t touch up my lipstick at all.:)

Hmm, it does wear on me quite a bit while eating. Maybe it is a difference between the colors? Still a great product and I might have to get more shades πŸ˜€

May be you are right, that it depends on shade. I know that grand cru is different from others and it’s hard to apply it in comparison to others. If you get more I hope to see it on blog;)

I got one of the scarlet ones and I was quite disappointed. The colour looked great initially but I found it started to wear off in the centre even before I ate or drank anything. I did find mine a little ‘dry’ on my lips, but I don’t think they have the staying power that the manufacturers claim they do, particularly since you can’t reapply them without them going horrible!

They just wear off relatively quickly in the center. This is less clearly visible because the color is more natural but still.
I do find them a little dry, but I can handle it for a day.

I have shade 8, the dark red and I do love it. But I agree it doesn’t last through eating as much as I’d like. In fact this one was bordering on being messy! I also found that you have to be careful in applying it because it stains. But generally I did love it and I would like to try more. Especially for the price compared to the likes of the high end liquid lipsticks.

Choosing a shade was so tricky: they are all so pretty.
I have the same feeling: I would love it to be slightly longer lasting and easier to apply, but the finish and price are truly excellent πŸ™‚

The finish is great and the colors are amazing! As long as you can live with needing to reapply after about 4-5 hours they are great!
