Today’s Hit or Miss post features the Catrice Longlasting Lip Pencil in the color Sweet Nothing (160). Catrice is a beauty brand that as a whole is a bit hit or miss for me: some of their products are amazing quality for a budget price but others just miss the mark completely. So, how did this lip pencil do?
Catrice describes it as a longlasting waterproof lip pencil. I went with the nude Sweet Nothing (great name!) so I could use it underneath a variety of lipsticks. And that, clearly, is were I went completely wrong. I can’t tell you much about the longevity of this lip pencil, since I have only used it once. Why? It changes the color of the lipstick you apply over it.
Both swatches in the photo are the same lipstick, Loreal’s Blake Pure Red, applied by itself and over the Catrice lip pencil. You can see the color change, which is even more pronounced in real life. Blake went from deep ruby red to a much more pink color. The same reaction didn’t just happen on my lips, but also on the lipstick bullet itself. I had to wipe it down to get it back to the original color.
Obviously, after I have taken a lot of effort choosing the right lipstick color for the day, the last thing I want is it to magically change color because of my lip liner. I cannot even imagine how I would feel if I had to wipe down an expensive Charlotte Tilbury or Chanel lipstick because of this and I am so happy I tried it with a relatively cheap lippy first. So, this is definitely a miss for me.
