How to Fix a Broken Powder!

How to fix a broken powder

Last week, I dropped my Mac Skinfinish Natural :(. While it fell to the floor in slow motion, I had a couple of seconds to wonder if it would survive…but the cloud of powder told me it was broken before I even opened it. I hope you have never had to experience this, but if you have: here is an easy solution to fix your broken powder product.

How to fix a broken powderAll you need is a bowl, a bottle of alcohol, a knife and spoon, a plastic bag, and your broken compact. This trick works for any powder product, so you could also use it on eyeshadow/blush/contour if you need to.

Tip the broken powder into the bowl. You will likely have bigger and smaller pieces, so use the plastic bag and the spoon to grind it down to a fine powder. The plastic bag is not a necessity, but I find it helps reduce the mess.

Now add alcohol to the powder to create a paste. I like to add a little at a time, to make sure it doesn’t get to liquid. You want a paste like consistency that doesn’t drip of your spoon.

Scoop the paste back into the compact or packaging with the spoon. Use the knife to press it in tightly and create a smooth surface. A bit like icing a cake.

Just let it dry out for several hours, I prefer to leave it overnight. The alcohol will evaporate and leave you with a fixed compact powder. Obviously it will never be as pretty as it was, but the consistency will be the same and you can continue using the product.

Holy Hannah, this is brilliant! I would have NEVER thought of this. Knock on wood, I’ve only had the terrible broken-powder feeling once… But once was enough as it was my prized Givenchy eye quad that is no longer produced. Thanks for sharing this!

Wow! Wist ik dit maar eerder.. Heb mijn wenkbrauw kit pas nog weggegooid, omdat de poeder echt overal zat nadat het was gebroken.

Haha, happy to help Asa. Far from ideal of course, but a great lifesaver if it is an expensive or relatively new product πŸ™‚

Hrm, I might have to try this, I dropped and busted my Essence Matte Powder, I mean, if it doesn’t work out, I’m only out a few bucks. This is what the powder looks like:

Thanks for sharing this! It’s like cooking, but not. πŸ˜› Would this work if I use a higher % of alcohol? I only have 99%

Great product to try it out on: as you said, if it doesn’t work, at least it won’t be too expensive to replace.
I think a higher percentage of alcohol should be fine, maybe mix it with a tiny bit of water to dilute it a little?

Keeping my fingers firmly crossed – though thankfully I’ve only got one pressed powder (a Rimmel one) and to be honest it’s really not a massive loss in £££’s if it should hit the deck!! I think if it was a Chanel or MAC I’d be fumbling to find this post as soon as!! lol So helpful!! XXX

I’ve actually heard about this method before, but never had the need to use it. It’s great to know, though, since super clumsy side will eventually ‘shine through’.
