Blogging: tips and tricks for beginners!

And now for something completely different! I usually focus on blogging about all types of different beauty products, from organic skincare to my favorite polish, but today I want to have a little look at what goes on behind the scenes at my little blog.

Doves and Roses is less than a year old, so I am by no means an expert. However, I was recently asked how you can maintain a daily blogging schedule and I wanted to share a few tips and tricks I learned over the last few months that might help you.

Write down your ideas!

Inspiration for blogging will pop up at the weirdest moments, so always bring a little book to jot down any inspiration you have. Of course you could use your smart phone, but I prefer good old pen and paper. I always carry my little blue book of ideas around and I find my best moments come staring out of the window of a bus or train. What are your most inspired moments?

Get Organised!

Sounds so simple, but knowing what you want to blog about in advance makes all the difference. Having a decent schedule means you know what needs to be done in advance and when you need it. Do you still need to photograph a product? Write a post? It will all be in your little organizer.

How to organise your blog (1)

As you can see, I have a page for each week. I start by jotting down the seven posts I want to do that week based on the little book of inspiration. I than color code them into different categories (skincare, makeup, nails etc), so I can create a balanced week.

I leave myself some space, so I can indicate whether I have made the photo’s, done the photoshopping and eventually written the post. One glance at that allows me to see what needs to be done and in what order. I schedule my posts about a week in advance, so I don’t have to blog during less inspired or busy moments.

Social Media

When you started your blog, you also made accounts on all popular social media sites right?! If you haven’t, do so as quickly as possible. Social media like twitter and pinterest are perfect for finding new blogging friends and promoting your own posts. You can make it easier on yourself by using the sharing feature in wordpress that will automatically post your content to Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and other networks.

I also love Hootsuite: a free tool that allows you to pre-schedule twitter posts. It is important that you don’t overload your followers with content and preplanned posts, but this is certainly a lifesaver during busy weeks.

Those are all my little tips and tricks for now. I hope they are helpful to any new bloggers trying to find their way. I might dedicate another post to photography and photoshopping tips and tricks, what do you think?

How to organise your blog (1)

I love how organized you are. I also like to write a few extra posts when I’m feeling inspired. Instead of posting them right away, I save them for those weeks that are just completely uninspiring
