Designer Mascara: Diorshow New Look

Having been blessed with relatively long and full lashes, I find most mascaras work just fine for me. I prefer the higher end of the drugstore brands like Max Factor or Loreal, as these don’t irritate my sensitive eyes. Winning the DiorShow New Look in an amazing giveaway by Annie’s Beauty was a great chance to step outside my mascara comfort zone and try a high end designer mascara.

The packaging is the first element that just screams high end. Dior certainly know how to package their products and the New Look is no exception. A lovely black tube with fine details like the silver ring with the Dior logo and the embossed CD on the top.

The mascara should providing volume and a lash multiplying effect due to the special fine brush. It is quite different from most mascara wands and I really like it: the size and shape really allow you to apply the mascara with delicacy reaching even the most difficult corners.

This mascara does give you nicely separated lashes with some volume: my favorite look. Looks lovely during the day and is easy to spice up at night by applying an extra layer.

It also contains a special care formula that helps keep your lashes in top condition. I find this very difficult to judge, but I can certainly say this mascara is not irritating at all for sensitive eyes and easy to remove at night.

Overall, I really like this Dior mascara. However, at £25/€33/$28.50 I can imagine the price might be a little steep for some. I compared it to my current favorite (Max Factor False Lash Effect) and found them very difficult to tell apart. This Dior mascara is certainly worth a splurge if you are looking for a decent designer mascara, but you can replicate the same effect with a drug store one if you are trying to stay within a budget.

First, the mascara does look amazing on you. But, I know what you mean. Mascara is the one area where I feel 100% comfortable relying on drugstore brands. I have, however, fallen prey this last week to YSLs Baby Doll. I had numerous people compliment my eyelashes… so I figured I had to, right? LOL. Oh dear. The vicious cycle. :o)

      Thanks 🙂
I am glad you understand: I think drugstore works just fine, but occasionally I do like a high end mascara.
Heard a lot about Baby Doll, might have to try that as well 😀

Normally I’m hesitant to recommend high-end mascaras… just because drug store ones are usually great, but this one is really good!

I have a sample of this somewhere, I need to try it. But unless it’s going to add an inch to my lashes, I doubt I’d ever pay that much for a mascara! I love my CoverGirl LastBlast @ $7 too much to pay 4x the price for a designer mascara. 🙂

Gorgeous mascara & I literally am in love with the packaging but I find it soooo hard to justify the price compared to the drug store alternatives – there just doesn’t seem to be a huge enough divide. Think I’ll try the Max Factor one next you recommended 🙂 Karen xo xo

I completely agree Karen: the difference is more in the luxurious feeling and amazing packaging than in actual performance. Great if you feel like treating yourself, but high end drugstore will give the same results 🙂

Thanks 😀 Really? Any products in particular you disliked? I have to say I love their blush and lipstick hybrids, but haven’t tried anything else.

Yeah the Diorskin foundation was such a disappointment for me. It’s pretty expensive and just didn’t deliver how you’d expect! I love their lipsticks though! Rose xxx

for me things are just the opposite! most of the high end mascaras irritate my eyes like crazy! the first mascara I got was the Clinique full volume something, something… can’t remember the name! and it was the only one I used for years! then I branched out towards even more expensive ones that were hits and misses!
this Dior one is one of my favourites but I like it the most when it dries a bit! as you saw, it’s a bit wet when you first open it!
    enjoy it lovely!
