Worth the Hype? Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

The Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation is one of those products I just had to buy after reading so much about it on beauty blogs. I had a bit of trouble picking the right color and ended up going with No 52 Vanilla. I tried it a couple of times and disliked the color, so this ended up discarded at the back of my cabinet.

I recently went through my stash and rediscovered it. I decided to give it another go and was blown away by the result.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

My major issue with this foundation was the color, which leans very yellow. It just looked wrong on my fair winter skin, but it is a great match for my slight summer tan. Having gotten over the major hurdle, I started testing this foundation properly.

And I was impressed! This foundation just works for me right now. Bourjois Healthy Mix has a medium coverage: enough to conceal redness, but my freckles still show making it look very natural. I only need a little concealer after a sleepless night or if I want to cover a blemish.Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

My favorite part of this foundation is the finish: semi matte with a hint of luminosity. I do not need to set this with powder and the soft glow makes it look natural. Keep in mind I have normal to dry skin, oilier girls may have to use a little powder.Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

I have been wearing this foundation non-stop since rediscovering it: it is the best color match to my current skin and so easy to wear. This one is truly worth the hype, if you can find a decent color in the relatively limited color range.

On a sidenote: is it just me or is the limited color selection for drug store foundations irritating? Can’t be that hard to make a decent range of colors right?!

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

Funny how sometimes you just dislike a foundation and then love it again right? Happens to me many times, even with blush! This really looks lovely – good to hear you got it out again and can use it! It’s true it can be frustrating but i find that L’Oreal True Match foundations have quite a good colour range – have you tried those?

Glad to hear I am not the only one, sometimes your color or skin just changes a little and suddenly it is perfect πŸ™‚
Haven’t yet tried the True Match foundations but I hear a lot of good stuff. Thanks for reminding me.

Great post! Have seen this foundation many times. Unfortunaly not in my skin tone! I think the loreal true match foundations are the first drugstore foundations that came out with a wider variety of colors. Lately I’ve been mixing colors too to create the perfect match πŸ™‚ x

The color range is a real issue and so irritating! I do not understand why they can’t just make a couple of more colors.
Mixing does work well, what is your fav foundation at the moment?

I think they’re making the colors that are sold the most and therefore the most profitable 😦 Mixing everything from the loral true match, loreal eau de teint and maybelline fit me. Recently bought the Luminous Silk foundation from Armani! X

Oh how is the Luminous Silk? Have heard so much about it, but I haven’t had a chance to try it at one of the few counters here.

I’m not blown away by it. But it’s indeed a pretty foundation. I did a review on it! Check out my blog πŸ™‚ x

I have used the serum version of this foundation and loved it. I really want to try this one and see if there’s a difference. I find it VERY irritating that there are only limited shades but I guess buying two and mixing is an option? Although not really if you’re fair, I guess. Haha. Great post! X

Oh nice! Will have to check out the serum version myself. Let me know if you manage to compare them first!
Pff you could color mix, although they simply don’t go light enough for my winter skin, but that kind of defeats the purpose of buying cheap foundation. xx Anne

I may do a comparison although don’t have the other foundation anymore. And yeah that’s what I just thought, because I get the lightest shade fro, Bourjois xx

I agree foundations should always lean more towards yellow because it looks better on everyone. This one, however, is very yellow.
Bourjois is a bit of a mixed bag, some products are lovely others not so much. Thanks for the warning, will skip the concealer.
      Have a lovely weekend hun!

well my lovely, this was just my experience with their concealer… maybe you’ll love it so give it a go/ swatch…

and yes yellow-based foundations are my go-to’s as well! but again, there are lots of people out there that actually love this foundation as well! πŸ˜‰

have a lovely weekend! lots of xx

This stuff looks nice! Picking a foundation at the drugstore is the worst…not only can you not try it on, but the range of shades is always super limited. But you did it! Well done πŸ™‚

Funny cultural difference: we have foundation testers at the drugstore so you can try the colors. However, once you open the product at home you can’t return it.
Which ends up being frustrating, because swatching a color on the back of your hand is never a proper test.

I’ve been contemplating trying this foundation for a while and you’ve convinced me. I’m quite fair skinned too so I can completely relate to the struggle of trying to find good colour matches in drugstore foundations! xo

It is great, but the color range is tricky. Try the lightest one but they all seem to go much more yellow than pink.

This foundation looks great on you! I have never tried this brand before but I’ve heard of it. I am always so pale and fair that I usually just go for the lightest shades when it comes to foundations lol. I’m glad to hear that you were able to get some use out of this after all. πŸ™‚ xo

Wish I had picked the lightest one as well. It isn’t the color as much as the yellow undertone. Only works now I am a bit tanned πŸ˜‰

No, it’s not just you, the limited colours are annoying. I typically have to buy 2 shades to mix (I’m between light and medium) so in the end, I pay double the drugstore price – probably adds up to similar cost of a higher end foundation anyway!
I’ve never tried the Healthy Mix, but only the Healthy Mix Serum and while it was nice, it did oxidize on my skin a little. I did use up the whole bottle but never bothered to buy it again. May have to check out the Healthy Mix to see.

I know, how hard can it be to create an extra couple of shades?!
This oxidizes a tiny tiny bit, but not very noticeable. You could give it a go, might work out slightly better for you.

Exactly! Don’t the drugstore brands see that they are a lot of people with very fair or dark skin?? I almost can’t buy any because it’s always too dark for me!

Isn’t it just so irritating? I am almost always the lightest shade and I might be light but not the fairest of tones.

No, they didn’t 😦 I have tested 51 since and the difference isn’t much but it would have been a better winter match.
It is a decent foundation right!

I’d say that on face difference will be more seen. So get 51 if you see it. For me 52 is dark even I’m not the palest person:)

This foundation looks stunning on your skin! It really does give a natural finish. I have been wondering about this one. I have heard and seen a ton of raving reviews on it but I am too nervous to try it. I am not a big fan of drugstore foundations since everyone I have tried seems to make me break out and since I rarely wear foundation it makes sense for me to rather spend a bit more and know it won’t bother my sensitive skin. I think I might try this sometime though. Your review has me very tempted. πŸ™‚

It is a little tricky in your case: I can imagine if you don’t wear it often it is worth spending a bit more On the other hand, this is quite cheap so you might find a great cheap one.
