Mini House Tour: 50 Shades of Green/Blue/Gray – Part 2

Having spend the last couple of weeks submerged in DIY efforts and interior design choices, I wanted to share a little of my current obsession with you (especially since you have all been so supportive of me during the entire move). The DIY is mostly done (finally), but unfortunately a lot of my furniture is yet to arrive: I am not just suffering from choice overload but am also quite picky about what I like. So, in stead of a full tour I though I would show you the shades of blue/green/grey I finally decided on and a sneak peak of the bedroom!

Skylight Farrow and Ball

For the living room with open kitchen I ended up choosing Skylight by Farrow&Ball on all of the walls. I have to admit to having a small panic attack when the first wall was painted: I had imagined an airy shade of light blue but it turned into a far heavier green-blue. It took me a couple of days to get used to it, but it turned out to be an inspired choice. The color shifts beautifully during the day from blue to green depending on the light and looks slightly different on every wall (as you can see in the picture below). It is a very relaxing shade, but be certain to sample this if at all possible because the end result varies widely.

Skylight Farrow and Ball

For my study/guest room I opted for Sanderson’s Scotch Grey: a color very similar to Skylight but a shade deeper and slightly more green-grey than blue. Another lovely calming color that came out exactly as I expected based on the color chart.

Finally, my bedroom is the heaviest of the colors I choose and distinctly blue. I went with Little Greene’s Celestial Blue to get a great contrast with my white furniture. I love the way this color looks against the amazing patchwork of different colors in the quilt my mother made for me.

And there is space for my vanity! After years of squeezing my makeup into a tiny cabinet at the back of my kitchen, I now have a lovely large place to do my make-up. The ornate mirror is temporary, I will be replacing it with a lovely led light mirror I spotted at Ikea (that store feels like my second home right now, I have definitely been there too often).

I hope this little sneak peak gives you some idea of what I have been up to when I sort of abandoned all of you for a bit to focus on the move and DIY. I will give you guys a better tour once all the furniture is in place and the boxes are all gone, but do let me know what you think so far!

Skylight Farrow and Ball

Skylight Farrow and Ball

Celestial Blue Little Greene

Definitely. We have blank walls everywhere except the hallway. The hallway is a horrible dirty pink colour! πŸ˜›

Well that’s good at least! DIY always takes so long! :/ its a good step closer that’s all you can say to yourself to keep going! Its nearly done but not quite. Waiting for the work surface area and back splash to arrive arghh

I love it so much! I’m changing my place soon and I wish to have that mirror and the lamp. Do you want to have anything on the walls? They seem to be a bit empty. What do you think?

Thanks πŸ˜€ The lamp is really nice, Ikea is just the best!
I will definitely be adding stuff to the walls (though I have a tendency to overclutter them) but I want the be sure I have my furniture in the right spot before I start drilling holes. I love travel photos and retro post cards/posters πŸ˜€

The place looks fantastic! I love your aesthetic – so serene, but cozy at the same time. It’s so fun having a peek into your home! And I actually love the ornate mirror paired with the modern-looking vanity…but I’m sure the fancy LED one will be great too!

Thanks πŸ˜€ It was a bit tricky photographing around all of the boxes (A) but it is so much fun sharing it here.
The mirror isn’t bad, but the lighting just isn’t great and I really want my fancy led one πŸ™‚ Will reuse the mirror somewhere else I guess.

When we first moved here all of the walls were painted with cheap flat beige paint – it scratches and marks easily and sucks all of the light out of the rooms. So far we have painted the bathroom white and changed the mirror and cabinet to white to make it a little brighter, and added colour with the towels and shower curtain. My office is now a very light blue (bluer than a blue toned white, but close) to go with my shiny white desk, and the bedroom is a light, yet bright yellow. I love picking out paint, but I hate the painting process, haha!

That sounds so much better than the standard beige! Love the s0und of your office and a yellow bedroom just sounds so fun.
Oh I hate the painting bit as well, but it is worth it when you see the results πŸ™‚
