Dupe Alert: Catrice Shine Appeal Fluid Lipstick

Mauve is the perfect color to wear on your lips this autumn and I found a lovely version by budget brand Catrice. This lovely shade of their Shine Appeal Fluid Lipstick is called Better Make a Mauve (070). I wasn’t drawn to this product solely for the color however, as the packaging is a clear dupe of a high end product I adore: the Dior Addict Fluid Stick.

Let’s look at the Catrice product first. The Shine Appeal Fluid Lipstick promises to combine the color of a lipstick with the shine of a gloss. There is twelve colors to choose from, ranging from lovely nudes to bright reds, and each one will set you back a mere €3.99.

The packaging is very luxurious for a budget product – though a clear copy of the Dior Addict Fluid Stick – and the applicator is round and a decent size. I might actually like the simplicity of the Catrice packaging with the sleek black cap a little more than the shiny Dior silver version, but unfortunately that is where it all starts to go wrong.

The Dior Addict Fluid Sticks (you can read my full orginal review here) truly have the coverage and lasting power of a proper lipstick but Catrice fails on both these points. The Shine Appeal Fluid Lipsticks do not have the same opacity as a lipstick, but in stead remain a little translucent like a gloss. I would also expect a little more lasting power from a fluid lipstick, this needs to be reapplied every two to three hours.

So, not a proper dupe of the Dior Addict Fluid Sticks or what I would consider an actual fluid lipstick but that doesn’t mean this is a bad product. As a gloss, I love the Shine Appeal Fluid Lipsticks: great shine, not too sticky, and lovely colors. What do you think: still interested or will you pass on these now?

I just spotted those in the store yesterday and they do look very similar. Have you tried those?

I do love the packaging 🙂 But I hate glosses because my hair always finds a way of sticking to it!! 😛 x

These aren’t as sticky as normal gloss, but definitely a risk for your hair 🙂 I prefer lipsticks as well 🙂 xxx

Even the packaging looks roughly the same as the Dior ones what a great bargain buy 😀 I wish they just worked as amazing as the Dior ones!

I had secretly hoped so, but Dior was so much better. Ah well, at least they are value for money 🙂

It isn’t bad as a gloss, but nowhere near the amazing Dior version you introduced me to 🙂
Hope you have a fab weekend as well 🙂

Well my lovely, this is another confirmation that you’re not paying only for the brand and that the price is justified!
I’m so happy you still like them! 😌xx

Such cool packaging, but too bad it turned out to be just a gloss. It’s still very pretty on you, though! 🙂

Thank you 🙂 Yes, I had really hoped for something more comparable to the Dior version but well.

This looks super promising, since I’ve been eyeing those Dior lip glosses but couldn’t justify the price!

Well, it turns out there is a reason Dior is more expensive. I had hoped these would be a little better, but I have noticed Essence have a dupe as well(hope to get my claws on that one soon)
