Dutch Design with Hema Hand Soap

Hema is a Dutch warehouse chain that has been around forever (well, since 1926 but that is sort of the same thing). It has recently started expanding within the EU, so you might have come across one yourself. It used to be a rather dreary place you only went in when in need of cheap essentials (it started out as a pound store originally)…but no more.

Hema has been upping their game in the last year with great design for the old budget price. Still a great place to get your cotton disks and basic shirts, but their new stationary is great and their home decor stuff is addictive.

I recently picked up this Flora hand soap with lovely packaging (a little Aesop vibe going on there) for only a couple of euro.Β This not only looks good on my worktop but smells of jasmine and orchids: perfect!

Ach Hema!

I think I’d love to visit a Hema store! I love discount type stores with nicely designed items like Daiso and Tiger – I always end up leaving with things I don’t need lol. This soap does look much more expensive and has a apothecary appearance. And hmm I love jasmine scent.

It is a little like Tiger (which strangely is called Flying Tiger here in the Netherlands) except a lot bigger πŸ™‚

Oh yes, and I recently discovered Sostrene Grenes which is a similar danish concept πŸ™‚ The scandinavians are just good at this stuff.
