Ikea Hack: Danish Inspired Storage Cabinet

Ikea Hack (

Having moved into a much bigger place during the summer, I have slowly been adding bits and pieces of new furniture to fill up the space and create a nice atmosphere. One of the biggest issues turned out to be an additional cabinet for my kitchen: I really wanted to hide my oven/microwave behind closed doors but the right cupboard was impossible to find. I ended up creating an Ikea Hack to sort out the problem.

Or – more accurately – I drew up a lovely plan for a Danish inspired cabinet and handed over the execution to my amazing dad.  I choose beech because I love the natural shade and it works well with my floor. I went for a playful distribution of doors and open spaces and added tilted beech furniture legs for a great Danish look.

To keep things simple, we used Ikea doors from the Besta series which come with hinges and a push-open system. Just drop by Ikea and have a look at how they attach the hinges: you can easily copy these holes in your own.

I am very proud of the finished result, even though my dad did almost everything. I am such a lucky girl with a handy dad willing to create this for me. My oven/microwave is now safely hidden behind the big door and my kitchen looks organized.

Glat to see your variation of skills from beauty to cabinet designing and I love blueprint copy of those drawings and I’m so happy that you have deliberately included those drawings along with the post and it shows us how much effort you’ve put in to design this cabinet and I’m sure, whenever you pass through your kitchen everytime, you’ll definitely able to cherish these good memories for many and many years to come. And, moreover, what a handy dad you have! 3 cheers to him too. Lastly, I love the father-daughter combo of making this work to happen from paper to furniture and I also know Ikea has so many good variations to try when it comes to furniture and on the whole, the finished cabinet looks ravishingly awesome.

Thanks so much! It actually was a load of fun designing this myself but I want through so many different options before I settled on this one.
I am very thankful to my dad for making this happen and making it look so professional! Quite a lot of work, but so extra special 😀
