Terrific Toners

Toner is one of those additional steps in a skincare routine. Not strictly necessary perhaps, but I just miss it if I skip it. That little spritz of floral water just freshens me up in the morning and relaxes me at night.

I lined up three toners to see how they compare against one another. One of these is my all time favorite and another is a cult classic, so this should be interesting.

Eau Roma Water

Let’s start with my favorite one. I have used Lush toners for a long time, starting with the tea tree version when I was a teen and my skin was still a little unruly. I later switched to Eau Roma, an amazing combination of rose and lavender. This great scent and natural contents will be hard to beat. At $22.95 / £8.50 / €13.25 for a large bottle of 250 ml, this isn’t very expensive.

Melvita Damask Rose floral Water

This Melvita version makes great competition for Lush. It is also completely natural and smells of divine rose. These two are very evenly matched and both work the same. It is merely a scent preference I think: some nights I love the calming lavender in Eau Roma and other nights I love the pure rose in this toner. This is a little pricier than Lush’s offering, but not that much at $ 21.75 / £15 / €19.80 for 200 ml.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir

This is a cult classic, endorsed by big names in the blogging industry. I was quite excited to try it, but I have to admit I was left disappointed. Strangely, this is actually a fine toner but it just doesn’t live up to all the hype. It doesn’t do anything more for me than Lush or Melvita, but the price difference is astronomical. This Beauty Elixir will cost you $46 / £32 / €42 for only a 100 ml – that works out at eight times the price of the Lush toner in my currency. I know which one I prefer.

Have you tried any of these or do you have a different favorite toner? Do let me know, I am always looking for new skincare to try.

Dat kleine beetje bloemenwater verfrist me ‘s ochtends en relaxed me ‘s avonds.

Melvita Damask Rose floral Water

Totally agree about the Caudalie Beauty Elixir, it’s not worth the hype. I really like the Clinique Moisture Surge Toner though 😉

Yes, Eau Roma is the best!! Definitely my all-time favorite too 🙂 I recently tried Tata Harper’s Hydrating Floral Essence (which they market as a moisturizing toner) and it’s great, but I prefer to use it as a makeup refresher throughout the day.

That’s what we’re here for 😉 Seriously, can’t go wrong with the lush toners though! They do two other versions, though Eau Roma is my fav!

I’m never sure if toner actually does any good but I do like ‘refreshing’ my face with the Lush Tea Tree Toner!

I’ve become obsessed with toners lately. I never used to use one but since I started, I can’t live without one. My main criteria is that it has to be alcohol free.
From your list I’ve only tried the Caudalie Beauty Elixir which I received in a travel kit. Currently I’m using the L’Occitane Shea Butter Gentle Toner which is quite nice.
Will there be a corresponding post “Terrible Toners” too? 😉

Oh I really do miss my toner if I travel without one. Doesn’t do much skinwize, but just such a relaxing step.
I totally agree with you: alcohol free is a must. Anything with alcohol would automatically be a terrible toner (great title btw) but I never try those…

At the moment, I’m currently sticking onto my Lancome toner and I would seriously think about the toner from LUSH next time. Great post Anne!
