Pretty in Purple: another colored eyeliner

Catrice Liquid Metal Gel Eye Pencil 060 Lilac My recent love affair with colored eyeliner continues as I experiment with different shades. Today’s pick is a budget liner from Catrice, the Liquid Metal Gel Eye Pencil, in a great purple shade.

Catrice promisses a smooth, longlasting, and smudgeproof gel liner with a liquid metal effect for €3.39 (or about $3.80 / £2.60). It comes in eight colors, including standard black, bright blue, and even silver. I was tempted by the unique silver shade, but eventually choose the purple version which is called Lilac is Back in Nearly Black (060). It is a dark purple shade with tiny sparkles to give it that metallic finish.

I am very impressed with this eyeliner. It is very smooth and the color transfers easily to the lid. Once set, it doesn’t smudge and stays in place well. There is no need to sharpen this pencil, you simply twist it up. I thought that might be a disadvantage at first, because a sharp eyeliner tip gives more precision. This pencil is delicate enough to keep providing good control and a tight line, even after it has blunted a little.

The color is lovely as well. This purple gives a softer look and the color sets of blue or green eyes nicely. A great departure from standard black, but not as noticeable as the vibrant blue liner I showed you last week. I went with a smudged look here, but you have to work fast before the liner sets.

Another great budget find from Catrice. I have even read people comparing these to the cult Urban Decay Glide-On Eye pencils, but I don’t own any of those beauties so I can’t tell you if they are that good. I do know I love my purple version and will have a good look at the other colors next time I visit a counter.

I do like the UD ones but I do find they budge a little, so it’ll be great to try these!

These stay put rather well and the price difference is quite substantial!

Oh hey, you changed your header! Cute!
This liner looks great on you – purple is one of my “safe” colours if I’m in the mood to branch out.

Thanks, felt the blog needed a bit of cleaning up!
So true, purple and especially the darker colors are close to black yet just a little different! Do you have any favorite brands for colored liner?

Ooh that’s actually really lovely Anne, I have a purple liner from Avon but its utter rubbish and really put me off coloured liners – think it’s time to try something new!!! 😉 Talking of which LOVE the new blog design chum!!! It’s wonderful!! Have I totally fell off the bandwagon and missed this?! Or is it something recently?! My gosh I feel so out of the loop lol Either way its fantastic, well done on an awesome design job – I adore it 🙂 XXX

Some of them are awful! I always try to swatch them, you can tell straight away if they are hard and give no color at all.
Thanks! Felt it needed a little decluttering, so I played around with it on Sunday in stead of writing content. Still getting used to it, but I think it is a keeper.
      xx Anne

See Anne this is why I reeeeeeally dilike buying of Avon (or the internet for new products) as I can’t swatch the damn things! I’d much rather spend an hour in Boots and leave looking like a colouring in book lol The Avon one was dreadful, have tried it a few times but a no hoper 😦
Defo a keeper – love the new look!! XXX

Oh do you always exit boots looking like a child got loose on your entire arm with some permanent marker? I know I have found a keeper if I can’t rub the line away and have to do the rest of my shopping trip with eyeliner on my hands. xo Anne

I have heard so much about those, have you tried them? I think they are a bit expensive here but I might be tempted since we have an urban decay counter now!

I’ve tried a few of them – I have zero and perversion (both are black), psychedelic sister (purple) – I find them to be pigmented and long wearing.

Ja he!
