Three Shades of Nars Concealer

Three Shades of Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer Vanilla Honey Custard

The Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is one of those classic beauty products that requires little introduction. It is a great high coverage concealer to makes hiding those tricky dark circles a breeze and I have raved about it before.

The only issue I struggle with when it comes to the Radiant Creamy Concealer is the color. I was first color matched to Vanilla on a Christmas shopping trip to London at the lovely Nars counter in Liberty. Vanilla is the perfect color for my rather pale winter face, but as summer arrived it became a little light for me.

When discussing this problem with an advisor in San Francisco – this is all starting to sound rather cosmopolitan, but I should point out there are no counters here in the Netherlands, so I only ever get to swatch and test abroad – I was advised to buy the much more orange Honey and mix this with Vanilla in the summer months. The orange provides even better coverage of the dark circles, so I did this for a while and it worked rather well.

My beloved Vanilla was running rather low, so I recently had a bit of a dilemma. Repurchase Vanilla or try the slightly darker Custard? I picked up Custard after a lot of internal debate, so now I have three magic tubes of Radiant Creamy Concealer. Custard is a great neutral shade, not nearly as orange as Honey and I have a feeling this will be my summer shade. It is ever so slightly too dark at the moment so I am squeezing the last drops of Vanilla from my tube to compensate.

The moral of the story? I absolutely love the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, I just wish they would make a shade between Vanilla and Custard so I wouldn’t have to mix and match to get my perfect shade. Have you tried this? Love it or not?

You’re like Goldie Locks! Too pale, too orange, too dark! πŸ˜† But I feel your pain. I’m often in between shades and need to mix my own suitable match. I guess it speaks to how much you love this formula that you are so committed to finding / mixing your own shade. I’ll have to pick this up soon – April is just around the corner and I can buy during the VIB sale! πŸ˜€

You can just say it: I am difficult πŸ˜‰ Concealer is really tricky though, as it just needs to be exactly right in tone. And the difference between Vanilla and Custard is just a bit much.
The formula is amazing though, can’t wait to hear what you think about it!

Sometimes, I do mix and match when I’m not happy with the consistency of the colour that I needed.

I picked this up in Custard last year, still need to try it. It gets so many raves – I don’t know what’s taking me so long πŸ˜€ It is pretty annoying to have to mix and match base products, though. I usually have an extra light and extra dark foundation around to mix up with other shades.

Oh you need to try it! It is just lovely high coverage, perfect after a horrible night of sleep or a big event!
I guess we all mix and match bases to get that perfect shade, though I agree it can be a little irritating.

I have both Vanilla & Custard and mix & match depending on whether I’m tanned etc but Custard is the one I use most often xx

I guess it is a common issue. I think custard is more my natural tone, but I like the lightening effect of vanilla. xo Anne

I love the Nars concelaer but struggle with the same issue! I am usually the vanilla shade as well but wish they had something just a touch darker. Great post!

Yeah, it isn’t just me! I think the differences between vanilla and the shades up are just a bit big, if only Nars would tone it down a little. xo Anne
