The Doves & Roses 2nd Blogiversary Giveaway is now officially closed! Thanks so much for all of your entries and lovely messages. I will be announcing the winner right here on the blog on friday, so stay tuned!
Whoops, that hiatus was a little longer than I had planned originally. So sorry for my absence on the blog, but life has been all kinds of crazy – though thankfully of the wonderful variety.
First off all, I would like you to meet Bob. I wish I could keep him, but he belongs to my parents and I am just taking care of him during their holiday abroad. These last few days I have discovered, however, that a far more accurate description would be to say that my parents belong to Bob. He might be pretty, but has a matching diva personality and enjoys having his every whim catered too immediately (even if it is 4 am).
Besides el Bob and being back in the place I grew up for a bit (which is weird, but a great opportunity to take some photos of the environment), I have also started my new job working at the new T-Rex exhibit at my local Natural History museum. It is so much fun interacting with the public on a daily basis and even more fun to see how a museum operates behind the scenes. It has been a steep learning curve though and I have been a little too busy to blog.
Not to worry, as the second anniversary of Doves & Roses is coming up in October (I honestly can’t believe it but I double checked). I hope things will get a little more settled and normal service on the blog should resume with a bang on October third with a lovely giveaway as a thank you for sticking with me.
I’ll start catching up with all of your blogs and comments this week, so stay tuned and I’ll be in touch!
You may have noticed I have been a tad absent on the blog and social media recently, but I promise I have a valid reason for being just a little distracted. So, time for a blog and life update.
Catrice is usually on top of their product names and Copper and Paste is no exception. Great pun for this l0nglasting copper eyeshadow pen with a metallic finish. Does the rest of this live up to that great name?
Scent is memory and lilacs instantly transport me back to childhood walks with my family through woods filled with purple blossoms. Finding a clean natural lilac perfume isn’t easy, but I thing I have finally found mine in Pacifica’s French Lilac.
The absolutely amazing Karen from Confetti and Curves, a.k.a. my blogging twin as we share so many beauty obsessions, did an amazing tag called Get to Know Me on her blog and nominated me to do it as well. You can read Karen’s funny answers right here. Let’s get started shall we:
I don’t actually have one. Sore point, actually, because as a child adults always assumed I didn’t understand their question while I was telling the truth.
History! I loved being transported to different times and places.
Green tea during the week and a glass of cider or wine in the weekend. If I am feeling naughty, I might reach for a shot of Baileys.
Renegades by X Ambassadors has been stuck in my head all week.
I don’t even know where to start… sushi and any type of dessert involving chocolate if you make me pick.
The most amazing pale blue maxi dress to wear to my best friend’s wedding in the fall. Here’s H&M’s official shot of it:
Impossible: I can’t even pick a favourite author, let alone a favourite book. Again, if I really have to I would go Stephen King’s entire body of work.
Not at the moment, but I would love a cat or two.
Cartier’s Baiser Volé
A road trip through the Scottish Highlands with my parents in 2012. What an amazingly beautiful place!
Absolutely favourite destination ever has to be London though! I just feel so at home whenever I visit and there is always something new or different to explore.
I have been very fortunate to travel for work through the Caribbean and the US and I love going on short breaks all across Europe. Typical case of wanderlust.
I am a native Dutch speaker and obviously English isn’t a problem either. I have basic knowledge of Spanish and can read in French and German (but speaking those last two is rather tricky).
Just one: my ‘little’ brother (please read that with a sarcastic inner voice, the boy is 1.90 cm/ 6’ 3’’).
IKEA. Is that horrible? As a beauty blogger surely I should answer Sephora or something. I honestly love those giant blue and yellow warehouses full of useful and innovative design, though moving house last year means I have visited it more often than advisable.
I recently visited sushi restaurant Sumo in Rotterdam’s Market Hall: great sushi and great location. Here we are before enjoying our meal with the mandatory selfie.
Yesterday while watching John Oliver’s take on the Republican convention. I honestly manage to cry at everything from comedy to drama: I think I actually cried a little watching Inside Out.
Again, can’t really pick a single winner. I love all beauty blogs 😀
The Green Mile and Schindler’s List are obviously up there (and obviously I cried during both), but I also love lighter movies like Guardians of the Galaxy.
Game of Thrones is a current favorite and I absolutely love House of Cards as well.
A Samsung… something. It’s quite old and needs to be replaced badly. I have been eyeing that lovely new I Phone SE.
1.69 cm or 5’6” tall, which is about the national average here in the Netherlands.
Yes, though I admit going out for dinner is one of my guilty pleasures.
I absolutely loved thinking about these questions and I hope it was just as fun to read. I am not going to be nominating anyone in particular: feel free to do this tag and let me know in the comments so I can read your version!
My foundation hoard is pretty big: some I loathe, some I love, and most are just not quite it. If I start reaching for a single foundation day in day out amid all this choice, it is usually a sign I have found one I love. So join me for my second take on Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Radiance Reveal foundation.
Just a little update on what’s coming up on Doves & Roses this summer with a little sneak peek at the products that have just arrived! Let’s start with a little scheduling announcement.
Happy Kingsday to all of you! Today the Dutch celebrate the King’s birthday with street markets, carnivals, festivals and everything orange. Continue reading
Rose water is one of my go-to skincare products. I love a nice refreshing spray of toner after cleansing and rose happens to be one of my favorite scents. I have been trying another organic version by new brand Be.Loved: Rose Rain*.
