My Spring Favourites: Foundation

Favourite Spring Foundations with Nars Loreal Bourjois and Etos

I saved my favourite foundations for spring till the very last, simply because choosing only four from my insane hoard of base products was rather difficult. I love trying new foundations, though finding the right colour match and finish can still be a nightmare. I have eventually selected these four perfect spring foundations.

Shopping my Stash

If you are a little bit of a beauty addict like myself, chances are that there are any number of products lurking around the bottom of makeup bags or at the back of drawers you have completely forgotten about.

Let’s be honest, budget brands like Catrice and Makeup Revolution make it possible for us to indulge more often and every time you buy some lovely new product, you forget about the stuff you already own. With that in mind, I had a proper look at my own beauty stash and found some lovely products I really should use more often!

Shopping my Stash with Chanel, Bourjois, No7, Max Factor and Essence

Let’s start with this amazing cute lipgloss mini by everyone’s favorite brand: Chanel. It is inexcusable I forgot about this luxury sample of their Rouge Allure Gloss in red Seduction. The color is very summery and the gloss/lipstick hybrid is easy to apply and lovely to wear. I did a review of this months ago here.

Bourjois’ Radiance Reveal Healthy Mix foundation created quite the stir in beauty blogging land but unfortunately I picked the wrong color. 52 Vanilla was just too dark for my early winter skin, so I put it in the back of my cabinet and forgot all about it. Having tried it again, this looks like it will be my perfect tanned summer shade: all I need are a couple of decent sunny days and this will be great. Expect a review of this to pop up sometime in the summer.

Another lip product I forgot all about: the Max Factor Colour Elixir lipstick in Cherry Kiss (840). The perfect vibrant red for summer, I really should start wearing it more often. You can see a swatch in my first impressions article on it: right here.

Colored eye liners aren’t usually my thing but I make an exception for this teal gel liner by budget brand Essence. Amazing deep color, easy application and a great price. Don’t really know why I stopped wearing this one. Check out swatches here.

I don’t know if you can be obsessed with a color you can’t name, but I have managed. This little Boots No7 single eye shadow doesn’t have a name or number anywhere and was a gift with purchase ages ago. When I received it, I decided I would never wear a color like that. However, this weird taupy greyish brown looks amazing against my eyes and much more natural than it looks in the pan. I have been wearing it non stop the last couple of weeks and I will probably drag it into a Boots on my next trip to find another one. They’d better still have it!

Shopping my Stash with Chanel, Bourjois, No7, Max Factor and EssenceThat was all for now, it turns out I am actually quite good at rotating most of my beauty products but there were certainly some gems hiding in my stash! How about you, any stuff you’ve forgotten about but really should use more?

Shopping my Stash with Chanel, Bourjois, No7, Max Factor and Essence

The Lipstick Tag

Lipsticks have become a bit of an obsession for me recently, so when I was tagged by the lovely Zoe from Zoe Beauty Blog to answer ten questions about lipstick I jumped at the opportunity. You can read Zoe’s answers here and while you are there do check out the rest of her great beauty blog.

the lipstick tag

So, let’s get started. If I have reviewed a product before, I have linked back so you can see swatches of the color and read my opinion.

1) How many lipsticks do you own?

A short body count reveals I own 13 lipsticks. Such a lovely lucky number, clearly a great excuse to venture out and buy number 14. Not nearly as bad as I thought, but then that might just be because I have only become interested in lippy recently. My makeup used to be all about the eyes, but I just haven’t been able to resist those amazing bright lips for spring.

2) What was your first ever lipstick?

Oh, I clearly remember ‘borrowing’ my mum’s lipstick when I was a young girl. Two great matte lipsticks, one classic bright red and the other ruby. Not sure about the brand, might have been collection2000?! I can’t recall ever seeing her wear them, even though I think they would look great on her.

3) What is your most worn lipstick?

There are two I have been wearing a lot lately: Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution Lipstick in Amazing Grace and Chanel’s Rouge Coco in Dimitri (442). Amazing Grace is an amazing retro rose shade with a great matte finish and Dimitri is a lovely bright red with a hint of pink.

4) What is your favourite brand for lipsticks?

I am going to have to go with Chanel. There is nothing quite like that classic black packaging and the feeling you get when grabbing a Chanel lippy. Charlotte Tilbury is a close second, however, with amazing colors and quality.

5) What is your favourite finish?

Definitely the Luminous Modern-Matte finish of the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution range. Matte can be so uncomfortable and difficult to wear, but this is formula is just great. Easy to wear and apply and the hint of luminosity makes it more forgiving than a full matte.

6) What is the last lipstick you bought?

The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Don’t Pink of It. I gave in to the hype surrounding this product, but I am not completely on board. The color and finish are lovely, but the product is not as long lasting as promised.

7) How many lip products do you currently have in your bag?

Only three, but I have to admit I recently cleaned out my bag. Lipsticks really seem to like living in my bag, I always seem to find several of them in any bag I regularly wear. I have been trying to be better and return them to my vanity, especially with my more expensive lipsticks.

8) What lipstick do you use to rock a red lip?

Tricky question: I love the new Chanel Rouge Coco in Arthur (440) or the Dior Addict Fluid Stick in Pandore (754). Both are great bright reds with a hint of  translucency that makes them easy to wear. I love the hybrid formula of the Fluid Sticks: so easy to apply.dior addict fluid sticks in pandore and frisson

9) How do you store your lipsticks?

Ah, this is the problem. I don’t really have a fixed space for them, so right now they just sort of huddle together on a little shelf in my mirror cabinet. I have been eyeing those lovely acrylic lipstick holders but I haven’t made the plunge.

10) What Lip products are you currently lusting over?

Tom Ford lippies, without a doubt. The packaging looks phenomenal and the colors are breathtaking. I do find them a little expensive and am having massive issues narrowing it down to a single color, so I will wait for a special occasion and visit a counter for some advise.

Just a little insight into my lipstick obsession. I am not going to nominate three bloggers, but would like to invite all of you to join the tag. Share the lipstick love!

Worth the Hype? Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet

Some products just explode onto the beauty blogging scene and the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipstick was certainly one of these. For a little while, it was just everywhere! After reading all of these glowing reviews, I picked it up in a lovely nude pink.

The Rouge Edition Velvets are longlasting matte lipsticks that claim to stay put for 24 hours while feeling comfortable and light on the lips. They come in a variety of bright and nude shades.

I choose a more neutral pink shade with the amazingly cute name: Don’t Pink of it! Do not pick this thinking it is a nude, as you can see in the image it clearly reads as a pink lip but in an understated way.

I have to admit I am not completely blown away by these: it is a bit of a mixed bag for me. I love the matte finish and the pink color. The lipstick is comfortable to wear  and not drying on your lips, but I do feel it a little on my lips so it isn’t as light as promised.

My big problem is the long lasting aspect though. This doesn’t hold well on me: it wears quite quickly in the center of the lips after eating or drinking. I had expected a little more from this, especially since everyone is raving about this staying on their lips all day without touch-ups. Am I doing something wrong here?

On the plus side, the shades are amazing and the matte finish is very fashionable right now. This isn’t very expensive and I still find it worth my money, but it just isn’t performing as well as I had hoped. Do you own any of these? Do let me know what you think about them and whether you have a different experience with them?!

Favorite Blush

This week I am celebrating 6 months of Doves and Roses. On Sunday I will announce the winner of the giveaway (you can enter here if you haven’t already), but I will use the rest of the week to discuss my favorite beauty products. I have chosen six topics I love: lipstick, nail polish, foundation, tools, and eye products. We will start today with my favorite blushes.

favorite blush text

I am very much a blush girl: that little pop of color just lifts my face and makes me look alive. I have attempted bronzer, but it just doesn’t seem to be working so far. These five are my favorite products and I tend to use whichever matches the rest of my make-up and outfit best.

Dior Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush in 001 Petal

One of my favorite blushes for spring. Don’t look at the bright pink in the pan but swatch this on your skin, as this blush changes color depending on the Ph of your skin. On me, it turns a lovely pink that looks natural and bright. The packaging is pretty but a little bulky, but it lasts well so no need to run around with this in your handbag. You can find more of my enthusiastic ravings on this blush here.

Zoeva Luxe Color Blush in Gentle Touch

This lovely light pink is a perfect blush for working days: understated yet pretty. The compact packaging and great mirror make this perfect for travel and Gentle Touch will match pretty much any make-up. This blush has combines high-end quality with a budget price and you should also have a look at the amazing Zoeva brushes while you are browsing. More on this blush can be found in my full review.

H&M Blusher in Dazzling Peach (12)

I love H&M for clothes and accessories, but I don’t think they make particularly good make-up. The only exception? This blush, which I absolutely adore. A lovely peachy color that looks great and lasts well despite the budget price. Read more about it here.

Sleek Face Form Palette in Light (373)

The blush in my Sleek Face Form palette is also available as the separate Rose Gold blush. It is a perfect dupe for the famous Nars Orgasm blush at a great prize. I love this pink and gold combination, amazing for a special event or if you just need a little pick-me-up. Read more about the entire palette in this post.

Bourjois Cream Blush in Healthy Glow (02)

This is the only cream blush in my selection, which requires a slightly different application technique. You can pat it in with your fingers. though I like using the Real Techniques Contour Brush as well. Super compact, this is the blush I pick for short city trips or holidays. It gives a very natural result, truly a healthy glow.

These are my favorite blushes, what are yours?

Deze week bestaat Doves and Roses alweer zes maanden.

Dior Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush in 001 Petal

Zoeva Luxe Color Blush in Gentle Touch

H&M Blusher in Dazzling Peach (12)

Sleek Face Form Palette in Light (373)

favorite blush (2)Bourjois Cream Blush in Healthy Glow (02)
