Perfect Summer Aid: Bioderma Hydrabio SPF 30 Anti-UV Mist

bioderma hydrabio eau de soin spf 30 moisturising anti-UV mist

The prize for the best new beauty product I have tried all summer has to go to the Bioderma Hydrabio moisturising Anti-UV mist with SPF 30. It is just such a brilliant idea: a face mist with sunscreen you can simply spray on. I don’t understand why there aren’t more brands out there doing this, but luckily the execution by Bioderma is pretty great!

Petit French Pharmacy Haul

French Pharmacy haul (2)

Time to have a little look at my miniature French pharmacy haul inspired by the glorious sunshine we had a few weeks back. The French make such amazing yet affordable products and I am always particularly impressed with their sunscreen. The sun has since disappeared and has been replaced with hideous gray weather and rain, but I am hopeful I will be able to test some of these products before the end of summer.

My Favorite Facial Suncreen: Institut Esthederm’s Photo Regul

Institut Esthederm Photo Regul Pigmentation Irregularities Unifying Protective Care Face Cream Facial SunscreenEvery single spring, the hunt for a new facial sunscreen begins. Don’t get me wrong, I wear sunscreen all year round to protect my skin from the negative side-effects of the sun but for spring and summer I take it up a notch. I have a rather demanding wish list as well: I expect a high level of protection in a long lasting but light formula that works well underneath make-up and doesn’t leave a white cast when used alone. Not an easy task for a single product, but I have found a new favourite this season.

Proper Protection: Kiehl’s Daily UV Defense SPF50

Two weeks ago, I did a little post my favorite facial sunscreens. Don’t worry, I am not going to nag you again about the importance of wearing proper sunscreen on your face (just do it!), but I did promise you a full review of my new Kiehl’s Daily UV Defense cream.

Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 facial sunscreen

The Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 to use the full and overly long name is a light oil-free formula with UVA and UVB protection. This product sets you back about €37/£31 but it does contain 60 ml. The white tube is simple and convenient for travel.

kiehl's spf defense (2)

This is a light product that settles in smoothly and quickly without a white cast. It gives a little sheen to your skin, but nothing overly oily so you could use just this product without any additional make-up. This does work very well underneath every foundation I have tried it with – and I do own quite a few. It doesn’t ball up into those weird and awful grey fluffy things: I honestly don’t know any other way to describe them but I am sure you know what I mean.

Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 facial sunscreen

The Ultra Light Daily UV Defense doesn’t have a any added fragrance apart from that typical sunscreen smell, so is perfectly suitable for sensitive skins. I sandwich this product between my moisturiser and my foundation and that should work well for anyone with normal to dry skin. If your skin is oily, you can skip the moisturiser and just use this as it does have some hydrating properties.

Overall, this is a great product for those of you who feel protecting your skin from the sun in a daily basis is important, but expect your sunscreen to work underneath make-up. This is a no-fuss product that does what it says on the tin (or tube in this case). Excellent work Kiehl’s!

Summer Essential: Facial Sunscreen

Now that spring has finally arrived and seems here to stay, let’s talk a little about protecting your face from the sun. We all love a bit of sunshine (and need it to produce vitamin D), but the sun can also do a great deal of damage to your skin. These days, we are all well aware of this and protect our skin from the sun using sunscreen, right?!

Facial Sunscreen: Estee Lauder, kiehl's and la roche-posay

I use facial sunscreen all year round, even in the darker winter months. With the spring finally here and the summer around the corner, this becomes even more important. Not all sunscreens work well with make-up however, and every year I go on a little quest to find my perfect facial sunscreen combining a high SPF protection with easy use underneath make-up.

Nothing is more irritating than applying sunscreen after your moisturiser, to find it makes your make-up patchy or produces those awful little roles. I have three current favorite sunscreens that work well for me.

Facial Sunscreen: Estee Lauder, kiehl's and la roche-posay

Estee Lauder Daywear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant &UV Defense SPF 50

This Estee Lauder product combines skincare with sunscreen. It has moisturising properties and a broad spectrum SPF 50. I apply this over my normal moisturiser as I have dry skin, but those with oily skin could use this as a moisturizer and sunscreen. I love the light weight texture and cucumber smell. Looks great underneath every foundation I have tried it with and the fact this is my third tube should tell you how much I like it. It retails for €39/$40/£34, so not cheap but very versatile.

Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50

The new kid on the block, I bought this a few weeks ago as my Estee Lauder is running low and I wanted to try something new. I have only worn it a couple of times but so far, so good. Kiehl’s Daily UV Defense has a light weight texture and plays well with make-up. It does smell like sunscreen but doesn’t leave a white cast. I will do a full review of this in a few weeks time when i have truly put it through its paces, but first impressions are really good. It retails for €37/£31, so very similar to the Estee Lauder one but it does contain double the amount of product.

Facial Sunscreen: Estee Lauder, kiehl's and la roche-posay

La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Melt-in Cream 50+

This is the sunscreen I use for a proper day at the beach. It doesn’t work well underneath make-up and leaves a little bit of a white cast on the face, but this stuff is properly good at protecting your face. Use when you need long lasting sun protection that will not budge. Retails for about €15 at pharmacies.

These are my current sunscreen favorites. I am always looking for new products, so please let me know about your favorites in the comments!
